In September 2007, CURB President, Adrian N. Alexander, spoke with President of Prison Fellowship T&T, Pastor Daniel Parks, about our concerns with respect to prison sexual abuse.

We were encouraged to hear that he too was of the view that some intervention was needed in order to assist survivors of prison rape (buggery) and sexual assault both during and after their period of incarceration.

Following a decision taken at our Board of Directors meeting in September 2007, CURB wrote to the Prisons Officers Association (Second Division) to inform them of our concerns with respect to prison sexual abuse.

In June 2007, CURB developed a brochure on the issue of prison sexual abuse to educate the general public of the truths as opposed to the myths about this controversial issue.

We were able to distribute the brochures at volunteer fairs and other events in North and South Trinidad. The literature assisted many readers to develop a measure of compassion for persons who are sexually assaulted, irrespective of their criminal record.

Also in June 2007, CURB reported in our Blog of an ex-prisoner who received a substantial award of damages from the Trinidad and Tobago High Court in respect of injuries he sustained from a beating in prison.
